Football and progressive Judaism
I will remember Rebecca as a self assured girl who later became a beautiful woman with a clear mission to live her life according to her humanistic, Jewish and Zionist principles. And so she did.
I met het often at the LJG Den Haag and had the opportunity of interacting a bit more as her “coach” during Yom Havoetbal…
Her too early departure is impossible to comprehend and yet, while we are all left with a terrible sense of emptiness, I am so impressed by the reaction of the huge amount of people whom had the privilege to meet her during her too short life.
I once heard a rabbi say that the age of a person should not be counted by the number of years such person lived, but rather by the number of hearts this person touched during his or her life. In the case of Rebecca, it is clear that she did touch many, many hearts.
I wish her family and close friends a lot of strength to deal with such a terrible loss.
May her soul be bound up in the bond of eternal life. Baruch Dayan ha Emet.
