• Merav Barzel

Merav was Rebecca’s Bat Mitswa teacher and friend.

Here in the place that connected us,

where you were allowed to learn from me – you borrowed my own Hebrew books at the age of 12 – but perhaps I learned even more from you.

From your courage, your sharpness, your versatility, and your thoughtful concern, for the people and the world around you.

You always said YES, you were always there, always ready.

You could rely on you, for ‘Wehaikar lo lefached klal‘ was your rule.

Even in your last voice message to me almost two months ago. I asked how you were.

But you only talked about others, about how you could be there for everyone in your bubble as much as possible.

Because the rest only frustrated you. I could have learned so much more from you.

Your Hebrew was by now better than mine. You were so promising.

And you will stand here forever beside me, you without a tallit, but just as full from the heart, singing together:

Kol Haolam Koloe, Gesher Tsar Meod, Wehaikar Lo Lefached Klal!
